Feather River Democratic Club Meeting Minutes

January 19, 2012

• The meeting was called to order by Tony Blackwell, Chair. 
• Members present were Tony Blackwell, Janet Brown, Gurbachan Chopra, Arlene Edwards, Toni Fresquez, Mohinder Ghag, Linda Hicks, Betty Knorr, Lynne Koester, Bill Lyons, Stella Mayfield, Bob Morrish, and Joene Tranter.
• Members introduced themselves to our newest member, Stella Mayfield 
• Tony Blackwell led members in the Pledge of Allegiance.
• Minutes of the November meeting were approved as submitted.

Treasurer’s Report

-        The treasurer’s report was approved with a December 31, 2011, balance of $1697.39. 

-        Invoices for 2012 membership dues were distributed to members present.

-        Bill Lyons read a thank-you note from Friends of the Library for the club’s donation of two magazine subscriptions, The New Yorker and Oprah.

Club Officers

• Nominations for 2012 officers were made and seconded.  Elected were:

-        Chair:  Lynne Koester

-        Vice-Chair:  Janet Brown

-        Treasurer:  Bob Morrish

-        Parliamentarian:  Betty Knorr

-        Secretary:  Joene Tranter

• Tony Blackwell turned the meeting over to the new chair, Lynne Koester.  Lynne noted that she had planned to lead the club’s GOTV effort for 2012, and in taking on the role of chair, she will need a strong GOTV committee.   Members pledged their support.
• Bill Lyons noted that he has completed the July-December, 2011, 460 report due January 31, so the new treasurer, Bob Morrish, will start with a clean slate. 
• Tony Blackwell volunteered to take over the website role previously handled by the club treasurer
• Betty Knorr was named club liaison to the Sutter County DCC.

Old Business

·         Theater party:  Janet Brown will follow up with Jo Anderson to see where we are in planning this fund-raising event.

·         Bok Kai Festival: 

-        Tony Blackwell reported that a voter registration booth for this event is not included in our sponsorship fee but requires a vendor application costing around $175.  Toni Fresquez will confirm this information with her festival contact and will notify Lynne Koester.   If a decision must be made before our next E-Board or club meeting, it can be done by phone.

-        Betty Knorr will check with Jeannie Klever and Lynne Koester will check with Michael Paine to see if Congressman Garamendi has already been invited to the parade.  If he has not, the club will invite him.

New Business

• 2012 plan: The club’s annual plan and January-March planning calendar were distributed to members.  Joene Tranter will forward a soft copy of the plan and full-year calendar via email.
• Presidents’ Day:  Lynne Koester will check with the Yuba-Sutter Mall about a voter registration table for Presidents’ Day weekend.
• 2012 charter renewal:

-        The E-Board made a recommendation to charter with both the Sutter County and Yuba County DCCs. 

-        Joene Tranter will complete the SCDCC charter application paperwork for E-Board approval.

-        Tony Blackwell read a note from Michael Paine, YCDCC chair, who will meet with the E-Board in the next month.

·         New committees:  Members agreed to establish an ad-hoc bylaws committee to make changes establishing a new strategic planning committee, to change the title of co-chair to vice-chair, and to change the Club Liaison to the SCDCC as an appointed position.  The bylaws committee will be chaired by Betty Knorr and include Stella Mayfield, Janet Brown, and Joene Tranter.

·         Obama talking points:  Betty Knorr distributed copies of a mailer from Obama for America which provides information on President Obama’s accomplishments in the past three years.  Tony Blackwell also suggested members look at the website obamaachievements.org for additional information.

·         Button machine:  Members agreed to the purchase of a button-machine package for a cost of $600.  This expenditure will support our fund-raising goal of $500 from the sale of buttons.  We currently have an inventory of 500 buttons, donated last year by Lynne Koester, and the new machine comes with an additional 500 button sets.

·         Meeting minutes:  For this and future club meetings, minutes will be sent to the chair within one week after the meeting, then sent to all club members and posted on the club website.

·         Garamendi town hall meeting, Lee Burrows Center, Marysville:  Saturday, February 4

·         Bok Kai parade:  Saturday, February 25

Next Meeting:

·         Executive committee meeting:  Monday, February 13

·         Club meeting Thursday, February 16
